photo diary: DYS

days spent: driving. commuting. working. drinking wine by candlelight. becoming a christmas decorating lunatic. deciding never to throw a NYE party again. loving. living. buying home decor. making my house a home. wearing my favorite clothing items despite their imperfections. praying. and trying. what have you been up to?

Details.

no need for words.

Oh, Marni.

How I love thee.

I received my Marnis this morning and I was worried that a) they wouldn’t fit (European sizing can be so fickle) and b) they wouldn’t live up to my expectations. However, not only do they fit, they look even better than I thought they would.

Now to the task of coming up with a combination of clothes worthy of being paired with these shoes.

Shoes: Marni Platform Sandals

Come to momma!

Trying to put a dent on my List while preparing for Fall and Fall 2.0 (aka LA Winter). Going to be embracing all the dark/black clothing I already own. I’ll, also, be stocking up on thick opaque tights, paired with open toed heels ala Miroslava Duma.

As far as footwear is concerned, I think i’ll be living in these Marni sandals and the gray suede OTK boots the hubs gave me for my birthday last year. I’ll be concocting some sort of DIY solution to keep them from falling down since the laces it came with aren’t doing that great a job. I’m wondering how hard it’d be to make a custom garter belt for them. *googles*

Driving in Leopard

shoes: calvin klein, jeans: levi’s deconstructed 501s

Finally found a pair of leopard driving shoes I’m in love with, just had to look in the men’s section to find them. I was worried about the fit since some reviews claimed they fit true to size and others advised sizing down. Since my size wasn’t available anyway, I just sized down. But they fit perfectly and I’m having a hard time taking them off. Haven’t been this excited about shoes that weren’t heels in a long time. Crossing items off The List feels good! :)

Fall-ing Forward

I can’t even begin to explain how ready I am for Fall. I’m completely in love with the gloomy weather LA’s been experiencing these past couple days and I’m hoping its not just a tease. If you were raised anywhere where the climate going below 40º was a normal occurrence then an LA fall/winter will probably do nothing for you. In fact, you’ll probably laugh at native Angelenos who bundle up at the sight of a gray sky. But you have to understand that we were raised here, our bodies are not equipped for extremely cold temperatures. Therefore, you could basically give us low 40º degree days and it’d be the equivalent of sub-zero temperatures. At least to us. We don’t know any better, and we’d like to keep that way.

I’m dreaming. Faux-fur snoods, trench coats and wool peacoats oh my!

Your outfit should start with your underwear drawer.

I believe you should always dress for yourself and for how you want to feel on any given day. Its amazing how much your mood can improve when you’re wearing nice undergarments. Even if you know no one will notice, you know. And that’s all that matters.

P.S. If you’ve ever wondered why all larger sized bras look like something made for mothers on maternity leave, Figleaves is your friend. They carry a lot of specialty brands (mostly from overseas companies) that cater to women with larger cup sizes. Brands like DimitySo that only carry sizes D through J.

Back to Basics: The List

My, my, my has this site seen its share of transitions. I won’t say this is it because I may have said that before. We’ll just try this on and see how it fits.

Speaking of fits, I’ve been more than a little unhappy with my current wardrobe. I guess you can say I find myself in some sort of transition. I used to be able to pull things together without too much thought. Lately, my closet is so cluttered that I find myself re-using the same things over and over again. Not that its a bad thing, but I decided that if I was gonna re-use some pieces they might as well be basics that I’m in love with. I find myself wanting a more mature wardrobe as well. So armed with Nina Garcia’s The One Hundred and an extensive catalog of sartorial shots of my favorites (Miroslava Duma, Emanuelle Alt and Giovanna Battaglia) I’ve been trying to put together a list of basics.
